Christmas Carols and Remembering Larry Koger Tonight

Hello West Coast Fans,

Tonight we celebrate the memory of our friend and business partner Larry Koger who founded West Coast Barbecue and Brew nearly 6 years ago.  We are tapping some of Larry’s favorite beers for the evening – Firestone Parabola, Thorn Street Menace Double IPA and Nickel Tripp’s Tripel (which was the last beer I got to share with Larry).  Over the weekend we tapped several Belgian Christmas beers that Larry always loved as well – Delirium Noel, Scaldis Noel, St. Bernardus Christmas and Sierra Nevada Celebration.  Look for all of the beers to be on tap by 5 pm.

In addition to sharing stories of our friend over a beer, we will be hosting our annual caroling night with help from the good folks at St. Andrews church.  The caroling will start around 8 pm giving everyone time to work into their best singing voice.  We usually carol for about an hour.  Stop by anytime this evening to lift a glass to Larry who enjoyed the life he lived and shared that joy with everyone he met.

More Beer Stuff

Just a quick update on the upcoming tappings at the pub.  This Thursday, December 14th we tap a keg of the Karl Strauss and Nickel collaboration Triple Mosaic.  This is an 8.8% alcohol version of the Karl Strauss Mosaic Session and it was brewed with 100% Mosaic hops. It is very drinkable and full of tropical fruity hop notes.

Next week we have an early Christmas present for everyone as we will be tapping a full keg of Kern River Citra on Thursday the 21st.  We will have several other goodies on tap from our friends at Kern River including the JO IPA.

Holiday Schedule

We will CLOSED on Sunday, December 24th and Monday, December 25th for Christmas.  The pub will be open normal hours on Saturday the 23rd until 11 pm and we will resume normal hours at 11:30 am on Tuesday the 26th.

We will close an hour early on Sunday the 31st at 8 pm and then we will be open normal hours from 11:30 am to 9 pm on Monday, January  1st, 2018 – hard to believe i just typed that.

That is your West Coast news for now.  Please a fun and safe holiday season with hopes that you are surrounded by loved ones.  Take care, Tom

San Diego Beer Week at West Coast Starts Friday!

Hello West Coast Fans,

San Diego Beer Week starts Friday, November 3rd and we are ready to kick it off with a weekend of Societe beers including Pupil, Apprentice and new Nelson-hopped beer.  We have great events planned throughout the 10 day celebration along with some very tasty food specials.  You can get a little preview of our food specials tonight as we debut our new Chicken Pot Pie that will be topped with house made Chicken Gravy – that doesn’t sound bad, right?

Here is the complete list of our events.  I now have full beer lists and our food specials incorporated into the descriptions.  Be sure to follow us on Facebook at:https://www.facebook.com/WestCoastBarbecueBrew/ to see all of our daily food specials.

San Diego Beer Week 2017 at West Coast

Friday, Nov 3 – Sunday Nov 5: Societe Brewing Co. Weekend
We kick off Beer Week with our traditional Societe tap takeover weekend.  We will have 7 Societe beers on tap including pub favorites Pupil and Apprentice along with Coachman (session IPA), Publican (hoppy Pale Ale), Butcher Imperial Stout, Harlot Belgian Golden Ale and Bachelorette Lager with Nelson hops.
We will be tapping these beers Friday afternoon and you can enjoy them all weekend long.
Friday night we will be serving up our signature Smoked Prime Rib Dinner along with Chicken Pot Pies covered in our house Chicken Gravy.  On Saturday you can enjoy Bison Chili and our Smoked Prime Rib French Dip.  Sunday brings Beer Battered Fish and Chips.  It will be a great weekend of food and beer.

Monday, Nov 6: Firestone Pitcher Night and 50 Cent Wing Night
Look for Pivo Pils, DBA and Luponic Distortion all on special for this night with pitchers starting at just $12.  We’ll also have a keg of Stickee Monkee to share.  All night long we will have 50 Cent Wings with different sauce options including a Mango Scorpion Pepper hot sauce if you dare.  If you can’t make it by on Monday, these same great beers will be on tap Tuesday when we feature a selection of massive $3 tacos.

Wednesday, Nov 8: Karl Strauss Brewing Night with Triple Mosaic IPA
Karl Strauss and Nickel Beer Company teamed up to brew a new 9% alcohol version of the company’s awesome Mosaic Session Ale – dubbed Triple Mosaic. In addition to this 100% Mosaic hopped bruiser we will have the award winning Queen of Tarts and the 28th Anniversary Barrel Aged Quad.
Wednesday is Mac n’ Cheese night at West Coast and you can expect to find at least 4 tasty variations of our house Mac n’ Cheese every week.

Thursday, Nov 9: Ironfire Brewing Night with All. Oak. Everything. Collaboration
All. Oak. Everything. was a collaboration brewed with Nickel Beer Company that was fermented in oak barrels, aged in Bourbon and Rum oak barrels and even used oak aged water for the brewing process.  The result is a massive Imperial Stout with a pleasant balance of barrel and spirits flavor with orange peel added right before kegging and bottling.  It is deceptively smooth, so be careful – it clocks in at 11.5% alcohol.
In addition to the All. Oak. Everything. we will have kegs of Sex and Violence Apricot Sour, Ferris Muler (a beer made to taste like a Moscow Mule), 5150 IPA, Devil Within Double IPA and Grapefruit 5150 IPA.  Look for more delicious Chicken Pot Pies with house Gravy for dinner on Thursday.

Friday, Nov 10: Kern River Brewing Night
Kern River is one of my favorite breweries and I am stoked to be doing a Beer Week event with these wonderful people and their equally wonderful beer.  We will have at least 5 Kern River Brewing beers on tap including Just Outstanding IPA, River Buddy Pale, Shuttle Bunny DIPA, Dirty Hippie and Evel Kern Evel DIPA.  And Friday means more Smoked Prime Rib for dinner.

Saturday Nov 11 and Sunday Nov 12: Sierra Nevada Brewing Weekend
Every Beer Week at West Coast has ended with a Sierra Nevada tap takeover.  Sierra Nevada is very near and dear to my heart – it is just a wonderful brewery and it helped blaze a trail for our entire industry.
We will have a great selection of specialty beers on tap including Hopourtunist, So Fresh and So Keene, Baltic Joy, Estate Homegrown Harvest Ale, Otra Vez with Lime and Blue Agave and Rye Barrel Aged Dunkelweizen.  Two of my all time favorite beers will be on tap as well – Sierra Celebration and Sierra Pale.  These two beers have inspired me as a brewer for decades.
The kitchen will be working on more delicious food specials for next weekend.  Be sure to stay up to date by following us on Facebook to see our daily food specials.

That is your West Coast news for now.  We’ll see you soon for a great Beer Week event and awesome food.  Cheers, Tom

Papa’s Patty Melt

These new items are available all of the time now.  Treat yourself to one of the new items next time you stop in.

On the beer front we are tapping kegs of wet hopped beers from Nickel Beer Company this week.  These beers are all made with locally grown hops from San Diego that are harvested the same day that they are brewed with.  These fresh hops still have a lot of water weight, hence the term “wet hop”.  The My Way Wet Hop IPA with Cascade and Chinook hops is already on tap and Thursday night we tap Green Truck Wet Hop Double IPA made with 100% Columbus hops.

Friday night we will be tapping Buffalo Paw Brown Ale which is an easy drinking brown ale that is only 3.7% alcohol.  It will pair perfectly with our signature Smoked Prime Rib dinner.  Saturday we will tap our 4th and final Nickel wet hop beer – Golden Nugget Wet Hop IPA, which was made with Nugget hops and it is 6.2% alcohol.

Looking Ahead

Next week we will have a Keep the Pint Night featuring Knee Deep’s Deez Hops IPA on Thursday the 28th.  That weekend we will be tapping some Octoberfest lagers including one from Eppig Brewing.

The following week we will have an evening of Mike Hess Brewing beers on Thursday, October 5th.  We are already working on our events for San Diego Beer Week which will kick off Friday, November 3rd.  We are working on events with Societe, Sierra Nevada and Kern River among others.

That is your West Coast news for now.  We’ll see you soon for delicious food and a tasty wet hop beer.  Cheers, Tom

Smoked Prime Rib All Weekend for Dad!

Hello West Coast Fans,

I’ve got some great new food specials to tell you, updated tap lists along with some expanded hours coming in July.  But the big news this week is that we will be doing Smoked Prime Rib ALL WEEKEND in honor of Father’s Day.  We will begin serving it for dinner at 5 pm Friday and then have it available all day Saturday and all day on Sunday from open to close.  That way you can stop by anytime for a fantastic meal paired up with incredible craft beer.  And we will still be doing our Smoke Prime Rib French Dip on Saturday in addition to the dinner plates all day.  We are now open till 9 pm on Sundays giving you more hour to enjoy a great beer and/or food.

Tonight we start off our weekend tap takeover with Pariah Brewing Company.  We’ll have 5 beers on tap including Clearly Juicy Double IPA, Dorcha EX Stout (brewed with molasses, cocoa nibs and coffee), Dank Drank IPA and Erotic Night (Belgian Quad Style brewed for the Pink Boots society of women brewers).  Look for all of the beers to be on tap today by 4 pm and through the weekend.

Looking Ahead

Next Wednesday, June 21st we will be debuting a new weekly special – Specialty Mac n’ Cheese.  Every Wednesday night we’ll have a different version of our house Mac n’ Cheese on offer.  We tried a Birthday Bacon Mac n’ Cheese last week and it helped inspire this idea.  So not only do you get All Day Happy Hour every Wednesday, you also get awesome Mac n’ Cheese.

At the end of the month we’ll be doing a Societe Brewing weekend that will kick off on Thursday the 29th and feature lots of pub favorites.  We’ll be featuring local boys Helix Brewing the following Thursday right after July 4th.

Speaking of July 4th, we will be CLOSED for the holiday on that Tuesday.  However, we will be open at 11:30 am on Monday, July 3rd as we kick off our new Monday lunch service.  Starting on the 3rd we will be open every day for lunch at 11:30 am.  We will be running our very popular $3 Taco special all day on Mondays from 11:30 am until Close.  And we will be adding Beer Battered Fish and Chips to our Specials line up every Sunday and Monday starting in July.

Tap List

Our website now has a fully updated list of our draft beers.  You can check it out at: https://westcoastbbqandbrew.com/beer/.  We are using Untappd to update the list so you now get the beer name, brewery name, style, ABV, brewery location and even a description if there is one on the site.  Look for the tap list to be updated regularly as we tap new beers.

That is your pub update for now.  We’ll see you soon for some tasty Smoked Prime Rib!  Cheers, Tom

Flank Steak, Beer to the Rescue and 50 Cent Wings All Day Monday!

Hello West Coast Fans,

Change is in the air at West Coast.  If you have stopped by recently you will have seen our new paint job – you can check out some pictures here: https://www.facebook.com/WestCoastBarbecueBrew/photos/a.144069992393106.30609.138469802953125/1089357744530988/?type=3&theater.  The place is much brighter and yes, we will be putting stuff back on the walls soon.  We are also starting to slowly expand our hours.  Our first step will be to stay open until 9 pm on Sunday nights starting with this Sunday, May 28th.

Some things that are not changing include great beer and Smoked Prime Rib every Friday.  Tonight we will be tapping a selection of beers from Belching Beaver Brewing Co. including Peanut Butter Latte Stout, Anniversary Hazy Pale Ale, Miso Honey Wheat Ale and Orange/Vanilla IPA.  One of my favorite soups is on the specials board today as well – Beef Enchilada.  So simple, yet so good.

As mentioned, we will have our signature Smoked Prime Rib on Friday night.  Then Humberto and crew will be serving up a Smoked Flank Steak dinner special for Saturday night.  And we have a new twist for Saturday day with the Beer Cheese Prime Rib Cheese Steak.  We melt our house made beer cheese into warm prime rib sliced thin and then top it with grilled onions and peppers.  Having already tried this sandwich in a test run, I can assure it that it is every bit as delicious as you are currently imaging it.

And as if that was not already enough for one weekend, we will be opening at Noon on Monday the 29th for Memorial with 50 Cent Wings, $3 Tacos and Craft Beer Pitchers starting at just $12 ALL DAY from Noon to 9 pm!

Beer to the Rescue

We will be hosting the final event of the Beer to the Rescue campaign to raise money and awareness for the Southern California Lupus Foundation on Thursday, June 1st.  The event is organized by local beer writer Brandon Hernandez.  He and I collaborated on a Double IPA at Nickel Beer called Hops to the Rescue, which is 8% alcohol and brewed with Citra, Simcoe, Mosaic, Cascade and German Blanc hops.  We will have that on tap alongside Nickel Banner Grade IPA (6.9% with Simcoe and Mosaic hops) and Tahoma IPA (6.5% all Tahoma hops).  I am hoping to have 1 or 2 other Beer to the Rescue beers on tap for the night as well.  You can check for updates at our event page for the night: https://www.facebook.com/events/257827354624186/?acontext=%7B%22ref%22%3A%2229%22%2C%22ref_notif_type%22%3A%22event_calendar_create%22%2C%22action_history%22%3A%22null%22%7D&notif_t=event_calendar_create&notif_id=1495734498027317.

Humberto will be making up something special from the kitchen for the nigh.  The NBA Finals also begin on June 1st and we will have it on our big screen TVs.

Looking Ahead

On Thursday, June 8th we will host a night of beers from Port Brewing, Lost Abbey and The Hop Concept.  And we just recently got some fresh allocations from Kern River Brewing including Shuttle Bunny DIPA and Hop Nookie Triple IPA.  I am not 100% positive when they will be arriving in San Diego just yet, but look for them on tap by mid-June.  We will certainly post up about it on the Facebook page.  And on June 15th we will host Pariah Brewing, which is turning out some very nice beers.

We have a special treat for all of the dads out there for Father’s Day weekend – an entire weekend of Smoked Prime Rib dinner specials.  We will start serving up Smoked Prime Rib plates at 5 pm Friday and then continue to serve them all day Saturday and all day Sunday.  That way you can bring dad by anytime for an amazing meal and fantastic beer.

That is your West Coast update for now.  We’ll see you soon for great smoked food and delicious craft beer.  Cheers, Tom

Hazy IPAs, Bitter Brothers and Smoked Prime Rib Returns!

Hello West Coast Fans!

I have lots to tell you about on both the food and beer fronts this week.  We are tapping some great hoppy beers tonight including a new favorite of mine.  The kitchen staff has some outstanding specials for this weekend.  And we’ll have the NCAA Basketball games Thursday thru Sunday for the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight.  Here are all of the details….

This Weekend

Tonight, Thursday the 23rd we will be tapping a pair of local hazy IPAs.  This is a style made popular in New England where the cloudiness of the beer is thought to contribute to the intensity of the hop flavor.  We’ll have Half Door Brewing’s Hazy Buzzwords IPA and Bitter Brothers Hazy Blue Line both on tap by 4 pm.  And though not truly hazy, we’ll also tap the unfiltered Fortem Double IPA from Firestone.  This is one of the best tasting new beers I have had recently and I can’t wait to enjoy more of it.

In addition to those hoppy beers going on Thursday night, look for Bell’s Hop Slam Double IPA and Stone Enjoy By 4/20 IPA already on tap.

Here is the schedule of NCAA Basketball games for Thursday and Friday.  We’ll have more games on Saturday and Sunday for the Elite Eight: All of the times listed are Eastern.

MW No.7 Michigan vs. MW No.3 Oregon Sprint Center (Kansas City, Mo.) Thursday, March 23 7:09 pm CBS
W No.4 W. Virginia vs. W No.1 Gonzaga SAP Center at San Jose (San Jose, CA) Thursday, March 23 7:39 pm TBS
MW No.4 Purdue vs. MW No.1 Kansas Sprint Center (Kansas City, Mo.) Thursday, March 23 9:39 pm CBS
W No.11 Xavier vs. W No.2 Arizona SAP Center at San Jose (San Jose, CA) Thursday, March 23 10:09 pm TBS
S No.4 Butler vs. S No.1 N. Carolina FedExForum (Memphis, Tenn.) Friday, March 24 7:09 pm CBS
E No.7 S. Carolina vs. E No.3 Baylor Madison Square Garden (New York, N.Y.) Friday, March 24 7:29 pm TBS
S No.3 UCLA vs. S No.2 Kentucky FedExForum (Memphis, Tenn.) Friday, March 24 9:39 pm CBS
E No.8 Wisconsin vs. E No.4 Florida Madison Square Garden (New York, N.Y.) Friday, March 24 9:59 pm TBS

Friday the kitchen is putting together some great food specials.  Smoked Prime Rib will be back for dinner along with a Salmon Salad.  During the day look for a new Deluxe Fish sandwich with Cod, Fish Tacos and a Seafood Soup.

Saturday we’ll have the Smoked Prime Rib French Dip back as well and Humberto will be doing a Smoked Duck Breast Salad for dinner.  Sunday we feature $6 Pulled Pork Nachos and craft beer pitchers starting at just $14 all day long.

We don’t know the match ups yet, but we’ll have NCAA Basketball games at 3 and 5:30 on Saturday and when we open at 11:30 am on Sunday and 1:55 pm.  The Final Four will be on Saturday, April 1st with the Championship game on Monday the 3rd.

Next Week

Every Monday we offer up 50 Cent Wings, $3 Tacos and Craft Beer Pitchers starting at just $12 from 2 pm to Close.  We continue the $3 Tacos on Tuesday and every Wednesday it is All Day Happy Hour giving $1 off nearly every beer on tap.  We offer a daily Happy Hour from 11:30 am to 3 pm Tuesday thru Friday.

Next Thursday the 30th we will be tapping some kegs from Bitter Brothers including a very rare keg of the collaboration we did for O’Brien’s – O Brother Where Tart Thou.  This 6% Belgian Pale Ale was kettle soured and then dry hopped with Mosaic.  Much of the batch is now aging in white wine barrels to be released early next year so only a little bit was kegged up now.  The beer has a massive fruitiness to it even though no fruit has yet been added.  Alongside this unique beer we’ll have the excellent Little Brother Session IPA and Prodigal Son IPA.  All of the beers will be on tap by 4 pm.

I have been assured that there will be more Smoked Prime Rib for Friday the 31st and more Prime Rib Sandwiches for Saturday the 1st.  And we will have a fish special for Friday as well.

Looking Ahead

We already have a few beer events planned for April including an Iron First Night on Thursday the 6th featuring Nelson the Destroyer and Ken Schmidt’s Chocolate Mint Stout.  We’ll be tapping a keg of the new Nickel Blue Truck Double IPA for the NCAA Basketball Championship on Monday the 3rd.  This 8.5% alcohol beer was brewed with 100% Columbus hops.

There will be beer events with Modern Times, North Coast, Rogue, Karl Struass and Sierra Nevada all coming soon.  You can also look forward to kegs of Bagby Boy Wonder IPA and San Diego Brewing Infinitude DIPA.  And of course we will keep making great new food specials.  I have been trying to post the food specials board as often as I can on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/WestCoastBarbecueBrew/.

Finally, we are working on getting our website revised so that we can keep you up to date with our tap list.  Hopefully I will have all of the finalized details in the next email.

That is your West Coast pub news for now.  We’ll see you soon for a great beer and fantastic food.  Cheers, Tom

Russian River, Citra x 2 and Smoked Prime Rib!

Hello West Coast Fans,

We have an incredible line up of beers over the next few weeks with lots of super strong IPAs headed your way.  There are still lots of Societe beers on tap from our huge tap take over this past Thursday.  The kitchen continues to crank out amazing food specials and we will be continuing our Friday night Smoked Prime Rib special for the foreseeable future.  Here are all of the delicious, drinkable details….

This Week

We are kicking the week off with some awesome taco specials.  In addition to our regular $3 Tacos we will be serving up Nickel Bacon Tacos and Grilled Ahi Tacos for just $4 each.  The Nickel Bacon is whole slab bacon that we put in the smoker and then chunk up like steak.  Look for these specials while they last both tonight and tomorrow night.

Humberto will also be serving up Clam Chowder in a bread bowl tonight, which should be the perfect way to keep yourself warm in this weather.  We’ll also have the Nickel Bacon BLT (super thick cut bacon), Unlce Bob’s Torta (Italian-style sub on Torta bread), an Eggplant Sandwich with Pesto and the Grilled Ahi Salad.  And there will be 50 cent wings and craft beer pitchers starting at just $12.  If it seems like a lot of good stuff for Monday, it is.  We are trying to run 5-6 specials every day now including 1-2 salads.  I try to post up the food specials most days on the Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/WestCoastBarbecueBrew/.

Tomorrow, Tuesday the 28th we cap our 5th Anniversary month with a very special keg – Russian River Blind Pig IPA.  It seems appropriate to finish the month with Temecula’s most famous beer, even if it is now brewed in Santa Rosa.  The beer will be on tap when we open at 11:30 am so  you can enjoy it at any point in the day.

Thursday, March 2nd we will tap the massive Hildegard Triple IPA from Benchmark Brewing (roughly 13.5%) along with kegs of Hop Chunks Double IPA and the brewery’s very tasty Brown Ale.  All three will be on tap by 4 pm on the 2nd and we might just sneak them on a little earlier.

This weekend we will be smoking up more Prime Rib.  We’ll have it as a dinner plate on Friday night and then serving up Prime Rib Sandwiches on Saturday all day long.  Saturday night our kitchen manager Humberto will be doing a Smoked Salmon dinner plate.  He smoked up some Salmon for Valentine’s Day and it was excellent.

Next Week

On Tuesday, March 7th we will be tapping Noble Citra Showers and I Love It IPA.  Noble was not distributing beer in San Diego for a little while, but they are back now and we have been lucky enough to get some of these very popular beers.  Hopefully we will have Noble beers more regularly on tap at West Coast throughout the year.

Then on Thursday the 9th we tap some true pub favorites from Kern River – Citra Double IPA and Hop Nookie Triple IPA alongside Thorn Street’s Brother Scotty’s Triple IPA.  All 3 of these beers will be on tap by 4 pm on the 9th.  These are all 5 gallon kegs and all strong beers so look for 5 and 10 oz pours of these special hoppy beers.

And then for next Friday, you guessed it, more Prime Rib.  Plus the kitchen will be serving up Smoked Flank Steak both Friday and Saturday.  Check the Facebook page next week for more details.

Looking Ahead

We will be serving up beer boiled Corned Beef for St. Patrick’s Day weekend starting Friday, March 17th.  We’ll have some Irish themed stouts on for the weekend and Nickel C.C. O’Neill’s Irish Red.  Look for Corned Beef plates, sandwiches and other specials all weekend long.

Some other upcoming food specials you can look forward to include pasta dishes, Smoked Meat Loaf and Chicken Parmesan.  And we will be hosting an Iron Fist tap takeover the week after St. Patrick’s Day on Thursday, March 23rd.

That is your West Coast pub update for now.  Thank you for all of the support during our transition.  Please forward this to any friends and neighbors who might be interested in what is going on at the pub.  We look forward to seeing you soon for the best smoked food and beer in town.  Cheers, Tom

Smoked Prime Rib, Seared Ahi and Lost Abbey!

Hello West Coast Fans,

We have 7 Lost Abbey beers on tap for this weekend as we continue with the pub’s 5th Anniversary celebrations.  We have several barrel aged beers including Cuvee de Tomme, Angel’s Share barleywine and Deliverance – a blend of Brandy Barrel Aged Angel’s Share and Bourbon Barrel Aged Serpernt’s Stout.  Plus Road to Helles Lager and Red Barn Saison.  To balance out with a little bit (or not so little bit) of hops we have Port Mongo and The Hop Concept Dank Sticky (all of which are brewed at Port/Lost Abbey in San Marcos).  All of the beers are on tap right now and most should last through the weekend.

The kitchen has some very tasty food specials for today including the popular Nickel Pickel Partty Melt and the new Very Berry Turkey Salad.  I have been trying to regularly post our food specials on the Facebook page and you can check out today’s here: https://www.facebook.com/WestCoastBarbecueBrew/photos/a.144069992393106.30609.138469802953125/1021506001316163/?type=3&theater.  The kitchen has regularly been making soup as well and today they have a Creamy Turkey and Vegetable.

This Weekend

The food specials this weekend are the real reason I felt compelled to send out another email.  The kitchen is really taking it to the next level for the holiday weekend.  Friday night we will be doing more of our Smoked Prime Rib with either baked potato or mashed potatoes with beer gravy.  This sold out last Friday so we are making more this week.  And we will be smoking a whole prime rib just to make sandwiches on Saturday during the day – I think it will be a Prime Rib French Dip.

Saturday night there will be Seared Ahi sandwiches and salads for your dining pleasure.  And then on Sunday Humberto will be making up Smoked Short Ribs.  It is going to be an amazing weekend to eat and drink at West Coast.  My best advice – hurry!

On Monday the 20th we will not be tapping Russian River Blind Pig IPA.  The keg did not make it on the truck to San Diego from the brewery. It has since been sent down, but it currently is in LA awaiting transfer to San Diego.  We will get it delivered some time next week and then once it finally shows up we will figure out a time to tap it.  I will certainly post on Facebook/Twitter when it will be tapped.  The good news – we will be opening at Noon on Monday and serving up $3 Tacos, 50 cent wings and $12 craft beer pitchers all day long.

Looking Ahead

Next week we will be hosting a Societe Brewing tap takeover.  I do not have the beer list yet, but we are working on it.  I expect to have at least 6 Societe beers on tap for Thursday the 23rd with maybe a few more showing up on tap for the weekend.

Thursday, March 2nd we will be tapping Benchmark’s Hildegard Triple IPA at 5 pm along with 1 or 2 other Benchmark beers.  We also have a keg of Benchmark Hop Chunks Double IPA that will be on tap soon.

We have lots of other great beers to tap over the next few weeks including Nolbe Ale Works Citra Showers and Nose Candy IPA, Thorn Street Brother Scotty Triple IPA and more goodness from Kern in form of Citra Double IPA.  Just expect lots of great beers on tap every time you walk in the door.

And finally, I will end the email with Bacon.  Monday and Tuesday the 27th and 28th we will be debuting Birthday Bacon Tacos for our taco special.  Birthday Bacon is whole slab bacon that we smoke and then cook up in steak like chunks.  It is pure decadence and oh so tasty.  It will change the way you think about bacon.  It might not save the world, but it probably could.

That is your good beer news for now.  Please share this with your friends and neighbors that might like it.  We’ll see you soon for a great Lost Abbey beer and something tasty from the smoker.  Cheers, Tom

5th Anniversary Celebration with Kern, Lost Abbey, Societe and More!

Hello West Coast Fans!

February is the pub’s 5th Anniversary and we have an entire month of special events planned.  We will be tapping beers from some of Larry’s (and mine) favorite breweries – Kern River, Lost Abbey, Societe Nickel and Firestone.  We also have some specialty beers that Larry had hidden in the cold box that will be going on tap this week.  And we continue with more new food specials and salads including Smoked Prime Rib and Duck.  Here are all of the details….

We started the month with six different Kern River Brewing beers and they are all still on tap.  We have the always popular Just Outstanding IPA plus Shuttle Bunny Double IPA, Gravity Check Session IPA, Dirty Hippie Imperial Red, River Buddy Pale and Class V Stout.

This Week

This week we have a very special line up of strong and barrel aged beers that Larry had ordered and set aside for a special occasion (and I think the 5th Anniversary is a very special occasion).  We will begin tapping these beers today, Wednesday the 8th, when we open with AleSmith Ethiopian Mokasida Coffee Speedway Stout.  Thursday we will tap one of Larry’s all time favorite dark beers, Firestone Parabola.  Friday look for Lost Abbey Angel’s Share Barleywine.  By Saturday we will have kegs of Nickel Larry’s Place IPA, Thorn Street’s Father Larry’s Rye Double IPA and Green Flash Lustrous Frumento with Coffee (this is the beer most of us would think of as Silva Stout).

There will be something to enjoy each night with all of the beers on tap by Saturday afternoon.  We’ll bringing out something special to hang up at the pub in honor of Larry around 4 pm on Saturday.

Friday night our kitchen manager Humberto will be cooking up some amazing new food specials.  Starting at 5 pm on Friday we will be serving up Smoked Prime Rib with either Baked or Mashed Potatoes and beer gravy.  He will also be doing a Smoked Duck Breast Salad.  Humberto cooks duck for many of our beer dinners at O’Brien’s and he always does an incredible job cooking it just right.  Humberto is hoping to run a Prime Rib sandwich special on Saturday as well.

Looking Ahead

Next weekend we will host a tap takeover with Lost Abbey.  We will have some great hoppy beers like Hop Concept Dank and Sticky and Mongo IPA along with amazing specialty beers like Deliverance (blend of Bourbon Barrel Serpents Stout and Brandy Barrel Ange’ls Share), Cuvee de Tomme and Angel’s Share Barrel Aged Barleywine.  Look for Red Barn Saison and Road to Helles Lager on tap as well.

Be sure to check out the Facebook page at:https://www.facebook.com/WestCoastBarbecueBrew/ for updates on next weekend’s fantastic food specials.

We will be opening at Noon on Monday the 20th for the President’s Day holiday.  To make it really feel like a holiday we will have 50 cent wings, $3 Tacos and craft beer pitchers starting at just $12 all day long.  And if that is not enough to tempt you, we will be putting on a keg of Russian River Blind Pig IPA when we open.  The brewery sent this down for the anniversary to honor Larry.  Truly some Presidential specials.

The final weekend of the month we will be tapping beers from our friends at Societe.  Look for a full line up of beers with an emphasis on hops but with a few Belgian inspired beers and something dark.  We have not finalized the tap list yet – but I will have the details in the next email.

That is your West Coast news for now.  We hope to see you this month to celebrate 5 years of great food, beer and people and hopefully many more to come.  Cheers, Tom
